Thank you for using Lablo ("we," "us," or "the app"). This Privacy Policy explains what information Lablo collects, how we use it, and your choices. We've tried to keep it plain and honest.
- Lablo is a camera-based language-learning app. You photograph objects and text, and the app labels and translates them.
- Photos you scan are sent to our processing service to be analyzed by AI, then a text result is returned to your device.
- Your learning data — saved words, collections, streaks, your name, and interests — is stored locally on your device, not on our servers.
- We don't require an account, email, or login. We don't sell your data or use it to advertise to you.
Information we collect
1. Photos you choose to scan
When you take or upload a photo to scan, that image is sent over a secure connection to our backend service, which uses a third-party AI provider (Anthropic) to identify objects or read and translate text. The image is processed to generate your result (labels, translations, example sentences), and the text result is returned to your device. We do not use these photos for advertising, and we do not sell them.
2. Information you provide during setup
When you first open Lablo, you may enter a first name and select interests (like "Travel" or "Cooking") to personalize your experience. This information is stored locally on your device and is used only to personalize the app. It is not transmitted to us or linked to your identity on our servers.
3. Learning data stored on your device
Your saved words, collections, badges, streaks, scan history, avatar choice, and settings are stored locally on your device. This data stays on your device and is not uploaded to our servers. If you delete the app, this data is removed.
4. Technical information
When your device contacts our backend to process a scan, standard technical information (such as your device's IP address) may be handled transiently by our infrastructure providers as part of delivering the service. We do not use this information to track you across other apps or websites.
How we use information
- To provide the core function of the app: analyzing your photos and returning labels and translations.
- To personalize your experience on your device (your name, interests, and learning progress).
- To maintain and improve the reliability and quality of the service.
We do not sell your personal information, use your photos or data for third-party advertising, or track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Third-party services
To provide scan results, we send images to our backend, which uses:
- Anthropic (AI model provider) — processes the image to generate labels and translations.
- Supabase (backend infrastructure) — hosts the function that relays images to the AI provider and returns results.
These providers process data on our behalf to deliver the app's core functionality.
Data retention
- On-device data (saved words, name, interests, progress) remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app.
- Scanned images are transmitted to generate a result and are not retained by us for advertising or profiling purposes.
Children's privacy
Lablo is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will address it.
Your choices and rights
- You can use Lablo without an account. No email or login is required.
- You control your on-device data. Deleting the app removes your locally stored learning data.
- Depending on where you live (for example, under GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights regarding your personal information. Because Lablo stores your learning data locally and does not maintain user accounts on our servers, most of your data is under your direct control on your device.
Security
We use secure connections (HTTPS) to transmit images for processing. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above.
